Ready For Revival | Pride: Removing A Barrier To Revival In Your Life, Pastor Justin Miller

Sermon Notes

Who are you relying on during this crazy season? What’s fueling you and keeping you going? The answer needs to be JESUS!

For the big stuff, for the little decisions – we were designed to be dependent on Him!

So, is your PRIDE getting in your way? Learn with us to be humble, plug into God, and get Ready for that Revival!

Revival is about plugging into God’s power. What are some things you find yourself relying on in place of God’s power?

John 15:5
5 “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.

What are some ways pride can hinder us from plugging into God’s power?
• Pride says, “I’ve got this”
• Pride says, “I’m good on my own”
• Pride says , "_______________________________________"

When unplugged from Jesus you have no power.

Proverbs 16:18
Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall.

John 15:4-8
4 Remain in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me. 5 “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. 6 If you do not remain in me, you are like a branch that is thrown away and withers; such branches are picked up, thrown into the fire and burned. 7 If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. 8 This is to my Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples.

Prayer should be our first response, not our last resort.
Jesus should be our first response, not our last resort.

James 4:13-16
13 Now listen, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make money.” 14 Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. 15 Instead, you ought to say, “If it is the Lord’s will, we will live and do this or that.” 16 As it is, you boast in your arrogant schemes. All such boasting is evil.

• We make plans when we don’t even know what tomorrow will bring
• We should include God in our plans
• Without God, our plans can lead us to become boastful or prideful

1 Peter 5:6
Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time.

• What happens when we practice humility?
• Humility puts us in God’s hands
• When we humbly submit ourselves to God, He lifts us up
• If we want to be a leader, we must be a servant

God doesn’t love us because we’re good, He loves us because He’s good.
We’re loved by God not because we are lovable, we are loved because He is love.

1 Timothy 1:15
15 Here is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners—of whom I am the worst. 16 But for that very reason I was shown mercy so that in me, the worst of sinners, Christ Jesus might display his immense patience as an example for those who would believe in him and receive eternal life.

2 Chronicles 7:14
if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.

• Humility gets God’s help
• God gives grace to the humble
• God forgives our sin
• God heals our land

Philippians 2:5-11
5 In your relationships with one another,
have the same mindset as Christ Jesus:
6 Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage;
7 rather, he made himself nothing
by taking the very nature of a servant,
being made in human likeness.
8 And being found in appearance as a man,
he humbled himself
by becoming obedient to death—
even death on a cross!
9 Therefore God exalted him to the highest place
and gave him the name that is above every name,
10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow,
in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
11 and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Next Steps:
What’s your Next Step in your faith journey?
Take some time this week to pray about what your next steps are.
1. Do you struggle with pride? Practice connecting to God this week. Remain connected to the vine.
2. Spend some time in prayer this week and if you need to, repent of your pride and ask God to give you a heart of humility.
3. Memorize Philippians 2:3. Let that verse be a guide as you learn humility and reject pride in your life.
Never forget, God is in you and with you always. He will never forget you, He will never turn away. He is listening and always,
God Loves You No Matter What!
