Matthew 5:3-10
3 “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
4 Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.
5 Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.
6 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.
7 Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy.
8 Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.
9 Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.
10 Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Mercy is having power over another person.

Mercy and Grace go hand and hand with God.

Grace is when God gives us something we don’t deserve and mercy is when God doesn’t give us something we do deserve.

Jesus tries to tell us to be able to bend without breaking; to be flexible, to be able to bend without breaking; to learn to hold back and show mercy.

Jesus knows to live a freed-up life you must learn to have mercy and show mercy to everyone. Are you able to show mercy?

Mercy from God only comes when we learn and show mercy on others.

Matthew 7:2 New International Version

2 For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.

Jesus is trying to help understand that our lives are all about faith. and mercy is all about faith that God is in control, that He is an active participant in our lives.

When we trust that God is in control we can turn over judgment, justice and mercy to God.

What happens when we don’t show mercy?

How often do we demand mercy for us but justice for the other guy?

We ask God for a pass but expect everyone else to pay.

Our hypocrisy is "mercy for me, justice for you."

This is the path to a stressed life.

You will end up replaying every incident where you feel you were slighted or damaged by others.

If you live life this way you will end up frustrated, bitter, and in the end, alone.

The blessed life belongs to those who have learned to be flexible and forgiving and above all to trust God.

Don’t hold on to the hurt or the pain; hold on to the nail scarred hand that paid your debt and saved you.

Don’t hold on to your "right," instead seek righteousness.

Do you know mercy? Maybe we don’t show it if we don’t know it. Maybe we can’t share it if we don’t know how.

But everything changes when we know Jesus.

Matthew 18:23-29 New International Version
23 “Therefore, the kingdom of heaven is like a king who wanted to settle accounts with his servants. 24 As he began the settlement, a man who owed him ten thousand bags of gold[a] was brought to him. 25 Since he was not able to pay, the master ordered that he and his wife and his children and all that he had be sold to repay the debt.

28 “But when that servant went out, he found one of his fellow servants who owed him a hundred silver coins.[b] He grabbed him and began to choke him. ‘Pay back what you owe me!’ he demanded.

29 “His fellow servant fell to his knees and begged him, ‘Be patient with me, and I will pay it back.’

30 “But he refused. Instead, he went off and had the man thrown into prison until he could pay the debt. 31 When the other servants saw what had happened, they were outraged and went and told their master everything that had happened.

32 “Then the master called the servant in. ‘You wicked servant,’ he said, ‘I canceled all that debt of yours because you begged me to.

33 Shouldn’t you have had mercy on your fellow servant just as I had on you?’

The point of this parable is that God’s mercy, through Christ changes everything in our lives.

In Christ, through Christ God shows us mercy, and blesses us instead.

Our sin debt is so huge that the cost is so very high – the life of our Lord God Almighty, His perfect Son Jesus Christ.

That is the measure of mercy that God gives to us.

Ephesians 2:4-5 New International Version
4 But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, 5 made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved.

Live by the law of mercy, not the hell of demanding justice.

James 2:12-13 New International Version
12 Speak and act as those who are going to be judged by the law that gives freedom, 13 because judgment without mercy will be shown to anyone who has not been merciful. Mercy triumphs over judgment.

God’s people have to stop demanding justice and giving mercy

No matter what kind of justice you are seeking, what kind of payback that you expect the reality is that whoever has wronged you can’t give back what they have taken form you – only God can.

Try mercy – it works every time in every situation.

Mercy triumphs over justice every time.

Never forget, God is in you and with you always. He will never forget you, He will never turn away. He is listening and always, God Loves You No Matter What!

ANNOUNCEMENTS & EVENTS
The week of 8-1-21 through 8-8-21

Wednesday, August 3rd,
Not Your Mama’s Bible Study presents Max Lucado – Before Amen

We all pray . . . some. We pray to stay sober, centered, or solvent; when the lump is deemed malignant, when the money runs out, when the marriage is falling apart. But wouldn’t we like to pray . . . more? Better? Stronger? With more fire, faith, and fervency?

In this four-session video-based study, bestselling author and pastor, Max Lucado reveals his struggles with prayer and how he discovered that it is not a privilege for the pious or the art of a chosen few but a simple tool everyone has been given to have a conversation with God. He shows you how to let go of uncertainties about prayer, trust that God hears you, and embrace a prayer life that brings peace and rest.

Complimentary dinner starts at 6pm, study starts at 6:30.  Be our guest.
