Temptation?? Be Prepared!
Pastor Justin Miller

SERMON NOTES

Where God is at work, so is His enemy. Do we believe that? We should! Jesus Himself was tempted – do we think we won’t be? But God is there, waiting to help us through it! Join Pastor Justin Miller as he tells us how to be prepared when temptation comes our way.

1 Peter 5:8 New International Version
Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.

James 1:3 New International Version
Because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance.

Jesus went through trials and tribulations and so will we.

Matthew 4:2 New International Version
After fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry.

The enemy always comes when we are weakest and offers what we want or think we need.

Matthew 4:3 New International Version
The tempter came to him and said, “If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread.”

James 1:14 New International Version
But each person is tempted when they are dragged away by their own evil desire and enticed.

Satan uses the things we want to lure us away from God.

He tells us to look to ourselves for fulfillment and answers instead of trusting God.

James 1:15 New International Version
Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death.

Sin looks good up front but always comes with at a price.

Satan always attacks when we’re weak and promises us everything we want but the price is always way too high.

Matthew 4:4 New International Version
Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’”

For every lie that Satan feeds you God has the truth that will free you.

2 Timothy 3:15-17 New International Version
And how from infancy you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. 16 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, 17 so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.

• Do you know the Word?
• Do you know it well enough to use it when you need it?
• God’s Word cuts through the enemy’s lies.
• The Word of God never produces empty results.

Matthew 4:5-7 New International Version
Then the devil took him to the holy city and had him stand on the highest point of the temple. 6 “If you are the Son of God,” he said, “throw yourself down. For it is written:
“‘He will command his angels concerning you,
and they will lift you up in their hands,
so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.’”
7 Jesus answered him, “It is also written: ‘Do not put the Lord your God to the test.’”

At all times the enemy works to steal your soul, kill your body and, destroy God’s work in your life.

Many of us are spiritual cliff-jumpers. We put ourselves directly in harm’s way, expecting God to clean up our mess.

Romans 6:1-2 New International Version
What shall we say, then? Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase? 2 By no means! We are those who have died to sin; how can we live in it any longer?

Jesus wins in His every encounter with the devil by not testing God but trusting and knowing God.

Grace is best used as a blessing rather than used to clean up your mess.

Matthew 4:8-10 New International Version
8 Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor. 9 “All this I will give you,” he said, “if you will bow down and worship me.”
10 Jesus said to him, “Away from me, Satan! For it is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only.’”

  • The most spiritual thing that we do is we choose. We choose who we are going to follow. We choose what feeling we’re going to act on.
  • Satan wants us to want the things of this world more than God.
  • To worship the devil is to do exactly what you want. Follow your feelings.
  • For every lie the devil feeds you there’s a truth from God that will free you.

Matthew 4:11 New International Version
Then the devil left him, and angels came and attended him.

James 4:7 New International Version
Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

• Hang on help is on the way.
• Greater is He that is in us than he that is in the world.
• If our God is for us, who can be against us?
• We can do all things through Christ who gives us strength.

Hebrews 4:14-16 New International Version
Jesus the Great High Priest
14 Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has ascended into heaven, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess. 15 For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin. 16 Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.

In your weakness don’t run from God, run to Him.

When you come to Jesus you won’t receive condemnation, you will receive Grace. Jesus is for you. He is never against you.

God is always greater. The enemy has no power over anyone that belongs to Christ.

God’s love never fails.

Never forget, God is in you and with you always. He will never forget you, He will never turn away. He is listening and always, God Loves You No Matter What!
