Worship Notes:

"I try to pray. I know I should pray. But, what am I supposed to say? How or when or where?”

It’s OK. We all know we need to pray. We NEED to connect with God. But, we’re intimidated; we feel like there must be a formula we have to follow. It’s really not as hard as it might seem, but it’s absolutely essential for Revival! Join Pastor Justin Miller as he gets real about how to have a better prayer life.

What kind of problems have you experienced with prayer in your life?

Luke 11:1
One day Jesus was praying in a certain place. When he finished, one of his disciples said to him, “Lord, teach us to pray, just as John taught his disciples.

Luke 11:5-6
5 Then Jesus said to them, “Suppose you have a friend, and you go to him at midnight and say, ‘Friend, lend me three loaves of bread; 6 a friend of mine on a journey has come to me, and I have no food to offer him.’

Luke 11:9-10
9 “So I say to you: Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. 10 For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.

Is there something that you have been asking God for a long time?

Is there something that you have lost heart asking for?

We are called to pray consistently and persistently.

What do you think would happen if we always got what we prayed for immediately?

Why would this be detrimental to our relationship with God?

  • – We wouldn’t rely on God
  • – We would be spoiled
  • – We wouldn’t appreciate God’s blessings
  • – God would be like a magic genie
  • – We would take God for granted

How does persistent prayer build our faith?

  • – It causes us to rely on God
  • – It causes us to wait on God
  • – It causes appreciate the blessings of God
  • – It reveals the will of God

Matthew 6:7-8
7And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. 8 Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.

How does this passage tell us to pray? How have you seen people change during their prayers?

  • – Pray in quiet
  • – Pray to God, not to impress others
  • – They speak differently
  • – They try to sound super holy

Hebrews 4:13
13 Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account.

Hebrews 4:16
16 Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.

Psalm 34:8
8Taste and see that the Lord is good;
blessed is the one who takes refuge in him.

John 17: 1-5
1After Jesus said this, he looked toward heaven and prayed:
“Father, the hour has come. Glorify your Son, that your Son may glorify you. 2 For you granted him authority over all people that he might give eternal life to all those you have given him. 3 Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent. 4 I have brought you glory on earth by finishing the work you gave me to do. 5 And now, Father, glorify me in your presence with the glory I had with you before the world began.

In this passage, what does this prayer of Jesus reveal about His character?

  • – He desires God’s will to be done, not His.
  • – He shows His concerns for His disciples
  • – He shows His concern for His church.
  • – He shows His concern for future disciples, meaning us.

Next Steps: What’s your Next Step in your faith journey?

God wants a relationship with us. Like any relationship, communication is key. Take some time this week to take the next step in your communication with God.

1. If you are struggling with learning how to pray; memorize Luke 11:2-4. It’s a good start on talking to God.
2. Start your morning off with a time of prayer. It will change your day.
3. God wants to hear from you. Just a conversation. Don’t think you have to use religious, flowery words. God knows your heart, just talk to Him.
4. Pray consistently and persistently. God loves to hear from you.

ANNOUNCEMENTS & EVENTS
for the week of 9-20-2020

Wednesday, 6pm,
Not Your Mama’s Bible Study presents:
The Book of Ruth Bianca Juárez Olthoff

God can seem distant when dreams fade, people die, or careers fail. It may feel like He slammed the door in your face and walked out for good. No one knows the feeling of abandonment more than Ruth and Naomi. Their story begins with the worst—death, famine, and poverty. And God remains silent.

But the book of Ruth doesn’t end with despair. The story brims with hope because God works on behalf of the two widows in ways they least expect. In this 7-part series, Bianca Juárez Olthoff, speaker and author of Play with Fire, teaches through Ruth to show how God moves behind the scenes in our lives.

Walk the journey of Ruth, Naomi, and Boaz and discover the devoted love of God and His transformative power in our lives.

Beverages and a light snack will be served.

Text to Tithe: Due to a number of requests for a more "modern" way to tithe, Text to Tithe has been created. It’s safe, fast, and secure. Just text the word, "give" to (786) 288-0839 and follow the link. Thanks!
