Kingdom Come: Peace in the Midst of Problems | Pastor Justin Miller

SERMON NOTES:

What are you struggling with right now?

Job situation? Health? Relationships? With Covid, maybe all of the above? Jesus doesn’t promise a problem-free life – He promises His Presence, and THAT’S where peace comes from.

In the midst of every storm you will find peace in Jesus Christ.

Jesus promises His presence with us always. His presence is greater than any problem.

John 16:33
“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
Jesus knows that we always size up our situation against our abilities.

  • We have to stop sizing up our situation according to our strengths and give it to Jesus instead.
  • When Jesus is near we have nothing to fear.
  • Politics and Presidents come and go but God is forever.
  • No matter what you’re going through got has you on His hands.
  • Kingdom people can be calm in the midst of chaos because we know who is in charge.
  • Come hell or high water our God is always with us.
  • No matter what the storm God never leaves.

Matthew 8:23-25 New International Version
Jesus Calms the Storm
Then he got into the boat and his disciples followed him. 24 Suddenly a furious storm came up on the lake, so that the waves swept over the boat. But Jesus was sleeping. 25 The disciples went and woke him, saying, “Lord, save us! We’re going to drown!”
God is always in control.

Jesus promised that in this world we will have troubles.

Hebrews 12:11
New International Version
11 No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it.

  • Sometimes in the hurt we question God. "God, don’t you even care?" "Can’t you see that I’m in trouble?"
  • Truth is we always have a choice.
  • God never agreed to our terms.
  • God overcomes this world; He reworks our pain into our righteousness and peace.
  • God’s presence is greater than all our problems
  • Peace isn’t the absence of problems; it’s the presence of God.

Matthew 8:25-27
New International Version
25 The disciples went and woke him, saying, “Lord, save us! We’re going to drown!”
26 He replied, “You of little faith, why are you so afraid?” Then he got up and rebuked the winds and the waves, and it was completely calm.
27 The men were amazed and asked, “What kind of man is this? Even the winds and the waves obey him!”

  • For Jesus the problem isn’t the storm, it’s our faith. (or lack of it)
  • The storm around you isn’t the problem; it’s the storm inside you.
  • Are you panicking or are you praying. Are you worrying or are you worshiping?

Philippians 4:6-7
New International Version
6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Instead of praying your problems away pray for God’s presence.

Jesus is in the boat with you.

Never forget, God is in you and with you always. He will never forget you, He will never turn away. He is listening and always, God Loves You No Matter What!
