Sermon Notes
Overflow | Generosity,

Pastor Justin Miller.

Romans 15:13 New International Version
May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

God wants this for you; He wants you to overflow with joy, peace, and hope.

God wants you filled to be overflowed.

We are blessed to be a blessing.

God isn’t about money buy money is about God. Money is about who you trust and where you put your faith.

Matthew 6:24 New International Version
24 “No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.

Money wants to be your god. It is in direct competition with God for control of your life.

God wants to free us from the slavery of money.

We even call money the almighty dollar and there’s no doubt it wants to run our lives.

Money is so embedded in our lives that even when God tries to free us from the burden, we get nervous, we get emotional, we pull back and turn away.

We become aggressive in defense of our treasure forgetting that it all belongs to God.

We come begging to God with empty hands and closed hearts, ready to give but never giving.

It’s not what God wants from you, it’s about what God has for you.

God requires something from us because He has so much for us but first you must trust and show you faith in Him.

Malachi 3:8 New International Version
8 “Will a mere mortal rob God? Yet you rob me.
“But you ask, ‘How are we robbing you?’
“In tithes and offerings. 9 You are under a curse—your whole nation—because you are robbing me. 10 Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,” says the Lord Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it.

It’s not about what God wants from you, it’s about what God has for you.

In every area of our life when God has something for us He wants something from us.

Faith is required upfront to receive what God has planned for us.

When your hands are closed you can’t receive anything.

Whatever you hold out in faith God will overfill it.

2 Kings 4:1-2 New International Version

The Widow’s Olive Oil

4 The wife of a man from the company of the prophets cried out to Elisha, “Your servant my husband is dead, and you know that he revered the Lord. But now his creditor is coming to take my two boys as his slaves.”

2 Elisha replied to her, “How can I help you? Tell me, what do you have in your house?”

“Your servant has nothing there at all,” she said, “except a small jar of olive oil.”

We focus on what we don’t have and ignore what we do have. The miracle starts with what we do have.

2 Kings 4:3-8 New International Version

3 Elisha said, “Go around and ask all your neighbors for empty jars. Don’t ask for just a few. 4 Then go inside and shut the door behind you and your sons. Pour oil into all the jars, and as each is filled, put it to one side.”

5 She left him and shut the door behind her and her sons. They brought the jars to her and she kept pouring. 6 When all the jars were full, she said to her son, “Bring me another one.”

But he replied, “There is not a jar left.” Then the oil stopped flowing.

7 She went and told the man of God, and he said, “Go, sell the oil and pay your debts. You and your sons can live on what is left.”

This miracle started with just a little bit of faith. Because she had faith and pored out what she had God poured out His provision.

Faith always primes the pump of overflowing.

Satisfaction comes from sacrifice.

Is there something God is calling you to release?

God pours in so that you can pour out.

Generosity makes room for God.

1 Timothy 6:17 New International Version
Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment. 18 Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share. 19 In this way they will lay up treasure for themselves as a firm foundation for the coming age, so that they may take hold of the life that is truly life.

Matthew 6:19-20 New International Version

Treasures in Heaven

19 “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. 20 But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

Putting God first will never be wrong.
God wants to fill you so that He may spill you.

When Jesus is in you Jesus will be what you spill.

Never forget, God is in you and with you always. He will never forget you, He will never turn away. He is listening and always, God Loves You No Matter What!
