SERMON NOTES:

"Next: Rooted In The Lord," Pastor Justin Miller.

Are you rooted in the Lord?

God wants us to be firmly planted and deeply rooted, constantly bearing fruit.

Jeremiah 17:7-8
“But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in him. They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit.”

Imagine if that passage described your life.

We need root that will bear fruit.

Luke 8:4-6
While a large crowd was gathering and people were coming to Jesus from town after town, he told this parable: 5 “A farmer went out to sow his seed. As he was scattering the seed, some fell along the path; it was trampled on, and the birds ate it up. 6 Some fell on rocky ground, and when it came up, the plants withered because they had no moisture.

Luke 8:11-12
“This is the meaning of the parable: The seed is the word of God. 12 Those along the path are the ones who hear, and then the devil comes and takes away the word from their hearts, so that they may not believe and be saved.

The seed is the word of God.

The Word of God is everywhere in the world. What do you do when you hear the word of God?

A closed mind is like rocky soil, the seed cannot take hold

Don’t illogically or irrationally box God out of your life.

Don’t listen to the lies of Satan.

Jesus tells us to ask, seek, and knock and if we do we will find the truth.

Luke 8:13
Those on the rocky ground are the ones who receive the word with joy when they hear it, but they have no root. They believe for a while, but in the time of testing they fall away.

The devil cannot stop God’s work in your life – only you can.

John 6:66
From this time many of his disciples turned back and no longer followed him. 67 “You do not want to leave too, do you?” Jesus asked the Twelve. 68 Simon Peter answered him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. 69 We have come to believe and to know that you are the Holy One of God.”

When the time of testing comes for you are your roots deep enough?

Every time you pick up the Word you are sending down roots.

When you’re rooted in God He’s rooting for you.

Romans 8:31
What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?

Romans 8:34-38
Who then is the one who condemns? No one. Christ Jesus who died—more than that, who was raised to life—is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us. 35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword?

Romans 8:36-39
36 As it is written: “For your sake we face death all day long; we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered.”
37 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. 38 For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons,[b] neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, 39 neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Yet there is another type of soil and most of us fall in to this category.

Luke 8:14
The seed that fell among thorns stands for those who hear, but as they go on their way they are choked by life’s worries, riches and pleasures, and they do not mature.

Every day in our lives it is the Word versus the world.

1 John 2:15
Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, love for the Father is not in them.

In your life right now where is the world drowning out the Word?

Seek God first.

Matthew 6:33
But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.

In any area of your life that you want fruit you have to put God first.

If you want to experience difference you have to do different.

Luke 8:15
But the seed on good soil stands for those with a noble and good heart, who hear the word, retain it, and by persevering produce a crop.

Luke 8:15
Still other seed fell on good soil. It came up and yielded a crop, a hundred times more than was sown.”

Please be encouraged to send down roots and be planted firmly in God. Build a solid foundation that will see you through every trial and tribulation.

Never forget, God is in you and with you always. He will never forget you, He will never turn away. He is listening and always, God Loves You No Matter What!
