May I Have A Do Over? Pastor Jeremy Foster
Did you ever wish you had a do over?
You can have do overs on purpose for every mistake because of God’s Grace.
No matter how many mistakes you have made you get a do over with God.
When you make mistakes it’s like God’s mercy donut shop. No matter how many mistakes you make God keeps making the mercy doughnuts.
God will spend your entire life trying to reconcile with you.
Ephesians 2:10 New Living Translation
10 For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.
Your life may take a detour but God’s will always find a way.
God has a master plan for you. If you are His masterpiece He has a master plan for you.
We fail because we start listening to and living by our excuses.
If God hasn’t given up on you why have you given up on you?
Excuses enable us to be afraid and fear makes us fight, flight, or freeze.
One single mistake and we return to failure and completely quit on our plans.
A single failure is not a final failure.
God will give us a do over.
Life is series of failures and recoveries.
Trust God. He has a purpose and a plan for you.
Don’t quit on God because he hasn’t quit on you.
This is why you quit:
My past – failure, my pain, my sorrow, my regret, my problems. My loss. My mistakes.
Job 19:19 New International Version
All my intimate friends detest me; those I love have turned against me.
How do you overcome your past?
You have to get past your past.
Lamentations 3:19-23 New International Version
19 I remember my affliction and my wandering,
the bitterness and the gall.
20 I well remember them,
and my soul is downcast within me.
21 Yet this I call to mind
and therefore I have hope:
22 Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed,
for his compassions never fail.
23 They are new every morning;
great is your faithfulness.
1. Refocus your mind. Don’t dwell on it – learn from it.
Romans 12:2 New Living Translation
2Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.
2. You have to release your past You cannot be defined by your past.
Isaiah 43:18 New International Version
“Forget the former things;
do not dwell on the past.
Psalm 103:10-13 New International Version
10 he does not treat us as our sins deserve
or repay us according to our iniquities.
11 For as high as the heavens are above the earth,
so great is his love for those who fear him;
12 as far as the east is from the west,
so far has he removed our transgressions from us.
13 As a father has compassion on his children,
so the Lord has compassion on those who fear him;
Hebrews 8:12 God’s Word Translation
I will forgive their wickedness and I will no longer hold their sins against them.
Romans 3:22 Living Bible
God says he will accept and acquit us—declare us “not guilty”—if we trust Jesus Christ to take away our sins.
And we all can be saved in this same way, by coming to Christ, no matter who we are or what we have been like.
3. Renew your heart.
Ezekiel 36:26 New International Version
I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh.
Always know that while we were sinners Christ died for us.
Proverbs 23:12 New International Version
Apply your heart to instruction and your ears to words of knowledge.
Matthew 17:14-20 New International Version
14 When they came to the crowd, a man approached Jesus and knelt before him. 15 “Lord, have mercy on my son,” he said. “He has seizures and is suffering greatly. He often falls into the fire or into the water. 16 I brought him to your disciples, but they could not heal him.”
17 “You unbelieving and perverse generation,” Jesus replied, “how long shall I stay with you? How long shall I put up with you? Bring the boy here to me.” 18 Jesus rebuked the demon, and it came out of the boy, and he was healed at that moment. 19 Then the disciples came to Jesus in private and asked, “Why couldn’t we drive it out?” 20 He replied, “Because you have so little faith. Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.”
Matthew 17:21 New King James Version
However, this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting.”
Never forget, God is in you and with you always. He will never forget you, He will never turn away. He is listening and always, God Loves You No Matter What!
