Make It Matter: What Matters Most.

Pastor Jeremy Foster

Will your life outlive you? Pastor Jeremy Foster challenged us to live a life driven by significance over success as we focus on what matters most. We can live a life that outlives our own by intentionally giving what we have, intentionally serving others, and intentionally sharing Jesus.

Your Life Matters!

Ephesians 4:1 (NIV)
I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received.

The God dream is not about a life of success, it about a life of significance.

How do I make my life matter?

  • Give to something that will outlive me.
  • Live so my life outlives me.
  • Our church can never do all that we are called to do without you.

You have a purpose.

A network is a net that works.

1 Kings 10:1-10 New International Version

When the queen of Sheba heard about the fame of Solomon and his relationship to the Lord, she came to test Solomon with hard questions. 2 Arriving at Jerusalem with a very great caravan—with camels carrying spices, large quantities of gold, and precious stones—she came to Solomon and talked with him about all that she had on her mind. 3 Solomon answered all her questions; nothing was too hard for the king to explain to her. 4 When the queen of Sheba saw all the wisdom of Solomon and the palace he had built, 5 the food on his table, the seating of his officials, the attending servants in their robes, his cupbearers, and the burnt offerings he made at[a] the temple of the Lord, she was overwhelmed.

6 She said to the king, “The report I heard in my own country about your achievements and your wisdom is true. 7 But I did not believe these things until I came and saw with my own eyes. Indeed, not even half was told me; in wisdom and wealth you have far exceeded the report I heard. 8 How happy your people must be! How happy your officials, who continually stand before you and hear your wisdom! 9 Praise be to the Lord your God, who has delighted in you and placed you on the throne of Israel. Because of the Lord’s eternal love for Israel, he has made you king to maintain justice and righteousness.” 10 And she gave the king 120 talents[b] of gold, large quantities of spices, and precious stones. Never again were so many spices brought in as those the queen of Sheba gave to King Solomon.

Matthew 5:14 (NRSV)
You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.

Heaven is real and so is hell.

Romans 14:10-12 (NIV)

For we will all stand before God’s judgment seat. It is written: “‘As surely as I live,’ says the Lord, ‘every knee will bow before me; every tongue will acknowledge God.’” So then, each of us will give an account of ourselves to God.

What did you do with my son Jesus?

We are all designed for a purpose.

Anytime we compromise God’s design it shortens and cheapens our lives.

Matthew 25:41 (NIV)

Then he will say to those on his left, “Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels.”

The law of sin is death.

Revelation 20:11-15 New International Version

Then I saw a great white throne and him who was seated on it. The earth and the heavens fled from his presence, and there was no place for them. 12 And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Another book was opened, which is the book of life. The dead were judged according to what they had done as recorded in the books. 13 The sea gave up the dead that were in it, and death and Hades gave up the dead that were in them, and each person was judged according to what they had done. 14 Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. The lake of fire is the second death. 15 Anyone whose name was not found written in the book of life was thrown into the lake of fire.

Romans 10:9 New International Version

9 If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.

Matthew 7:21 (NIV)

“Not everyone who says to me ‘Lord, Lord’ will go to heaven.”

Question: What did you do with my son Jesus?

Answer: I know Him personally. I gave Jesus my heart.

Question: What did you do with what I gave you?

Answer: I used the love I have for your Son to change the world.

2 Corinthians 5:10 New International Version

10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each of us may receive what is due us for the things done while in the body, whether good or bad.

Jesus is the rewarder.

Revelation 22:12 New International Version
12 “Look, I am coming soon! My reward is with me, and I will give to each person according to what they have done.

The Fire Test

1 Corinthians 3:9-15 New International Version
9 For we are co-workers in God’s service; you are God’s field, God’s building. 10 By the grace God has given me, I laid a foundation as a wise builder, and someone else is building on it. But each one should build with care. 11 For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ. 12 If anyone builds on this foundation using gold, silver, costly stones, wood, hay or straw, 13 their work will be shown for what it is, because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test the quality of each person’s work. 14 If what has been built survives, the builder will receive a reward. 15 If it is burned up, the builder will suffer loss but yet will be saved—even though only as one escaping through the flames.

The right answer: “I gave my life away.”

  • I will intentionally give what I have.

Give in the Legacy Offering

Acts of Kindness

  • I will intentionally serve others.
  • I will intentionally share Christ.

THERE IS MORE TO THIS LIFE THAN THIS LIFE.

MAKE YOUR LIFE MATTER! TODAY

Closing Prayer: Ken Smith

Never forget, God is in you and with you always. He will never forget you, He will never turn away. He is listening and always, God Loves You No Matter What!
