Lessons On Blessings | Blessed Are Those Who Mourn Pastor Jeff Wallace
Jesus is the path to a blessed life.
Matthew 5:3-10
3 “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
4 Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.
5 Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.
6 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.
7 Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy.
8 Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.
9 Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.
10 Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
In order to be spiritually victorious we must be willing to live in way that is contrary to this world.
Romans 12:2
Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.
2 Corinthians 7:10 New International Version
Godly sorrow brings repentance that leads to salvation and leaves no regret, but worldly sorrow brings death.
We should be saddened about what breaks God’s heart
There is a big difference between natural mourning and spiritual mourning.
Natural mourning is the sadness for the tragedies of this world; death, loss, divorce, etc.
Spiritually mourning is mourning for our sins and transgression against God.
Jesus teaches us the right way to grow; both in this world and the next.
Every time there is purpose in our pain. God never wastes our pain, He uses it to for His purpose to make us more.
There is purpose in our pain.
2 Kings 4:2-4 New International Version
2 Elisha replied to her, “How can I help you? Tell me, what do you have in your house?”
“Your servant has nothing there at all,” she said, “except a small jar of olive oil.”
3 Elisha said, “Go around and ask all your neighbors for empty jars. Don’t ask for just a few. 4 Then go inside and shut the door behind you and your sons. Pour oil into all the jars, and as each is filled, put it to one side.”
Matthew: 14:19
And he directed the people to sit down on the grass. Taking the five loaves and the two fish and looking up to heaven, he gave thanks and broke the loaves. Then he gave them to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the people.
Isaiah 61:1 New International Version
The Year of the Lord’s Favor
61 The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me,
because the Lord has anointed me
to proclaim good news to the poor.
He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted,
to proclaim freedom for the captives
and release from darkness for the prisoners,
God has placed here on Earth, in this city this time for a purpose. We have a mission.
Let God use you to heal and comfort others.
There is purpose in our pain. We are charged to be the hands and feet of Jesus.
Despite what the World may tell us we cannot buy our way out of our problems.
Worldly happiness is temporary, Godly happiness is eternal.
John 14:16 New International Version
16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever—
God is in the business of blessing broken people.
Matthew 5:4
4 Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.
Jesus tells us at the end of verse 4 that it is "Go" time.
2 Corinthians 1:3-4 New International Version
Praise to the God of All Comfort
3 Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, 4 who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.
The world does not have any true answers.
Ignoring our problems does not solve them
When Jesus tells us "Blessed are those who mourn," He is saying blessed are those who empathetic and will to help others.
2 Peter 3:13 New International Version
13 But in keeping with his promise we are looking forward to a new heaven and a new earth, where righteousness dwells.
Until we are ready to totally surrender we will never know all of the blessings.
Ecclesiastes 3:4 New International Version
a time to weep and a time to laugh.
Next steps to move from natural mourning to spiritual mourning.
1. Get to know God for yourself. Examine His character and attributes.
2. Study God’s Word. It will reveal how ugly sin is to God and how destructive it is to His children.
3. Seriously consider the price God paid through Jesus to redeem us from sin
Never forget, God is in you and with you always. He will never forget you, He will never turn away. He is listening and always, God Loves You No Matter What!
