Lessons On Blessings | Blessed Are The Meek

Pastor Justin Miller

Matthew 5:3-10
3 “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
4 Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.
5 Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.
6 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.
7 Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy.
8 Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.
9 Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.
10 Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Jesus tells us the meek will inherit the world.

Praus: Greek word is mistranslated. Prause means power under control.

Jesus is not speaking of weak people, he speaking of people who are under God’s control.

We are never really in control. We are either out of control or under God’s control.

We either OBEY God or we PLAY God.

Matthew 16:25 New International Version
25 For whoever wants to save their life[a] will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will find it.

James 4:13 New International Version

Now listen, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make money.”

14 Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes.

15 Instead, you ought to say, “If it is the Lord’s will, we will live and do this or that.” 16 As it is, you boast in your arrogant schemes. All such boasting is evil.

We have no real power, we have no real authority.

Are you under God’s control?

2 Timothy 1:7 New International Version

7 For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline.

All the people that God calls upon are not meek.

All of these people placed their power under God’s control.

Is God in control of your life?

Is God in control of where you are and where you are going?

Is God in control of your checkbook?

Is God in control of your choices? Your morality, your sexuality?

How about your tongue and what you say?

James 3:3-6New International Version
3 When we put bits into the mouths of horses to make them obey us, we can turn the whole animal. 4 Or take ships as an example. Although they are so large and are driven by strong winds, they are steered by a very small rudder wherever the pilot wants to go. 5 Likewise, the tongue is a small part of the body, but it makes great boasts. Consider what a great forest is set on fire by a small spark. 6 The tongue also is a fire, a world of evil among the parts of the body. It corrupts the whole body, sets the whole course of one’s life on fire, and is itself set on fire by hell.

We are either under control or out of control.

When we are under God’s control we have the potential to change the world.

When we’re out of control our actions can destroy us.

Psalm 24:1 New International Version

The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it,

    the world, and all who live in it;

All of life is under God’s control.

The meek will inherit the Earth because that is God’s promise.

Matthew 11:28-30 New International Version
28 “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

Philippians 2:7 New International Version

7 rather, he made himself nothing

by taking the very nature[a] of a servant,

    being made in human likeness.

1 Peter 2:23 New International Version

23 When they hurled their insults at him, he did not retaliate; when he suffered, he made no threats. Instead, he entrusted himself to him who judges justly.

Even while on the cross Jesus displayed His meekness and His trust in the Father.

Because Jesus placed His power under God’s control He saved us all.

Jesus is telling us to learn from Him and trust God is in control.

This is Christ’s invitation for us, trust Him and place all control to the Father.

Help us to place our power under you control.

Never forget, God is in you and with you always. He will never forget you, He will never turn away. He is listening and always, God Loves You No Matter What!
