Miracles: Jesus Calms the Storm

Mark 4:35-38(NIV)

35 That day when evening came, he said to his disciples, “Let us go over to the other side.” 36 Leaving the crowd behind, they took him along, just as he was, in the boat. There were also other boats with him. 37 A furious squall came up, and the waves broke over the boat, so that it was nearly swamped. 38 Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion. The disciples woke him and said to him, “Teacher, don’t you care if we drown?”

How can Jesus sleep in a storm?

All three Gospels, Matthew, Mark and Luke, rarely record events in the exact way, but this miracle is recorded in the same way.

Jesus planned the path – Jesus leads them in the storm. The storm was part of the plan.

Hebrews 12:11 (NIV)

No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it.

Don’t mistake inaction for indifference. Jesus cares, he does not cater. His plans are not our plan.

Storms prove He’s in control – trust Him, you’ll get through it.

Matthew 8:25-27 (NIV)

25 The disciples went and woke him, saying, “Lord, save us! We’re going to drown!”

26 He replied, “You of little faith, why are you so afraid?” Then he got up and rebuked the winds and the waves, and it was completely calm.

27 The men were amazed and asked, “What kind of man is this? Even the winds and the waves obey him!”

His presence is greater than our problems.

I am never out of control when God is in control.
