Wednesday, 6pm: "Not Your Mama’s Bible Study." Tim Tebow, This Is the Day.

Have you ever felt stuck?

Sometimes life feels rigid—as if nothing could ever really change. Maybe we’re afraid of taking a step of faith. Or maybe we’re too injured from the past to move forward. Or maybe life threw us a curveball and we still don’t know how to react.

No matter where you find yourself, you can make the most of today. In this inspirational series, Heisman Trophy winner Tim Tebow shares stories from his life to illustrate what it means to seize each day for God’s glory. He challenges us to step out in courage because this is the day to act.

Come to Bible Study hungry, it’s Pizza Night! A variety of Pizza and Salads will be served starting at 6pm. You’re always welcome to bring a dish or a snack or dessert to share but you’re not obligated to bring anything but yourself. You’re always welcome to bring a dish or a snack or dessert to share but you’re not obligated to bring anything but yourself. Children are welcome and child care is provided.                                           PRAYER: Is Prayer Important?

The way of prayer is truly the way of life. Let us give ourselves to prayer! Jesus prayed much even though He was God’s only begotten Son from eternity past.

Through His words and His actions Jesus tells us how import prayer is.

“Now in the morning, having risen a long while before daylight, He went out and departed to a solitary place; and there He prayed.” Mark 1:35.

“You do not have because you do not ask.” James 4:2.

“Until now you have asked nothing in My name. Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be full.” John 16:24

Prayer Partners are available at the front of the worship area after today’s service.

GREATER:In Step with the Holy Spirit!

In this series, the goal will be for you to get closer to God by understanding and accessing the gift of God’s Holy Spirit living in you.

Galatians 5:13-18 New International Version (NIV)

Life by the Spirit

16 So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. 17 For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever you want. 18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.

1. In these verses from Galatians, contrast what Paul says about the “acts of the flesh” vs “the fruit of the Spirit.” Discuss some real examples of both of these from your own life, or what you’ve observed in someone else’s life.

2. What does “walking by the Spirit” look like?

Hebrews 12:1 New International Version (NIV)

12 Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us,

Philippians 1:6 New International Version (NIV)

6 being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.

3. Why do you think God marked out a race for each one of us to run with perseverance?

How do we mess it up?

4. Have you been guilty of being overly concerned with someone else’s race? What does that look like? How can we fight against those thoughts?

Matthew 11:28-30 New International Version (NIV)

28 “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

5. Are you weary and burdened? If so, it is time for you to come to Jesus and take his yoke upon you. What does that look like in your life?

Pastor Justin gives some great advice this week on how we can surrender control of our lives by keeping in step with the Spirit. He also gave us some concrete ways we can “walk by the Spirit.”

Whatever that next step is for you, it’s worth it, and its far better. The race He’s marked out for you is just right; the pace He’s set for you is perfect. Walk with him.

Here are some next steps you can take to help you “walk by the Spirit.”

1. Take some time alone, so you can listen to God.  (James 4:8)

A. Through his word. (2 Timothy 3:16; Eph. 6:17; Heb. 4:12-13)

B. Through prayer. (Matthew 6:5-15)

C. Take His yoke upon you. (Matt. 11:28-30)

2.  Take a Next Step in your Faith Journey

  1. Begin Serving. Join a Team. (Your Church Leaders will help you find a team that’s a great fit for you.)
  2. Join a Group. (Acts 17:11; Hebrews 10:24-25)
  3. Start giving regularly. (2 Cor. 9:6-8)
  4. Step up to lead a Team, a Group, or a Ministry. (Ephesians 4:11-13) E. Be baptized. (Matthew 28:19-20; Rom. 6:3-4)

3.  Repent / Start something new (1 John 1:9; Psalm 51; Psalm 32)

A. Give something up, repenting of some type of sin. (1 John 1:9)

B. Prayer & Fasting. (Matthew 6:17-18; 1 John 5:14-15)

C. Start something new in your life. What are you passionate about? What would be pleasing to God and honor God? (Isaiah 43:19)
