SERMON NOTES

How to Walk in Freedom
Pastor Daniel Groves

2 Corinthians 3:17 New International Version
17 Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.

Is it okay if we pray?

When the spirit of the Lord is in you there is freedom

Galatians 5:1 Amplified Bible
Walk by the Spirit
5 It was for this freedom that Christ set us free [completely liberating us]; therefore keep standing firm and do not be subject again to a yoke of slavery [which you once removed].
John 8:32 New Living Translation
And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
Freedom comes with responsibility.

Galatians 5:13 New International Version
Life by the Spirit
You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh[a]; rather, serve one another humbly in love.
To honor God with our freedom we must know boundaries and what to turn away from in our lives.
The closer you get to the heart of God; to his presence you begin to understand real, true freedom.
Grace is not a license to sin more. Grace empowers us to live right, to live holy.

John 8:1-11 New Living Translation
A Woman Caught in Adultery
8 Jesus returned to the Mount of Olives, 2 but early the next morning he was back again at the Temple. A crowd soon gathered, and he sat down and taught them. 3 As he was speaking, the teachers of religious law and the Pharisees brought a woman who had been caught in the act of adultery. They put her in front of the crowd.
4 “Teacher,” they said to Jesus, “this woman was caught in the act of adultery. 5 The law of Moses says to stone her. What do you say?”
6 They were trying to trap him into saying something they could use against him, but Jesus stooped down and wrote in the dust with his finger. 7 They kept demanding an answer, so he stood up again and said, “All right, but let the one who has never sinned throw the first stone!” 8 Then he stooped down again and wrote in the dust.
9 When the accusers heard this, they slipped away one by one, beginning with the oldest, until only Jesus was left in the middle of the crowd with the woman. 10 Then Jesus stood up again and said to the woman, “Where are your accusers? Didn’t even one of them condemn you?”
11 “No, Lord,” she said. And Jesus said, “Neither do I. Go and sin no more.”

Four Ways to Walk in Freedom in Every Day Life.

1. Live with an "Attitude of Gratitude."

Colossians 2:7 New Living Translation
7 Let your roots grow down into him, and let your lives be built on him. Then your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught, and you will overflow with thankfulness.

Psalm 100:4 Amplified Bible
Enter His gates with a song of thanksgiving
And His courts with praise.

Be thankful to Him, bless and praise His name.

2. Recognize your praise is a weapon.

There is authority in your praise.

There is deliverance in your praise

There is freedom in your praise.

Acts 16:25-34 The Passion Translation
25 Paul and Silas, undaunted, prayed in the middle of the night and sang songs of praise to God, while all the other prisoners listened to their worship.

26 Suddenly, a great earthquake shook the foundations of the prison. All at once every prison door flung open and the chains of all the prisoners came loose.

27 Startled, the jailer awoke and saw every cell door standing open. Assuming that all the prisoners had escaped, he drew his sword and was about to kill himself 28 when Paul shouted in the darkness, “Stop! Don’t hurt yourself. We’re all still here.”

29 The jailer called for a light. When he saw that they were still in their cells, he rushed in and fell trembling at their feet. 30 Then he led Paul and Silas outside and asked, “What must I do to be saved?”

31 They answered, “Believe in the Lord Jesus and you will be saved—you and all your family.”[a] 32 Then they prophesied the word of the Lord[b] over him and all his family. 33 Even though the hour was late, he washed their wounds. Then he and all his family were baptized. He took Paul and Silas into his home and set them at his table and fed them. 34 The jailer and all his family were filled with joy in their newfound faith in God.

There is power in your praise.

3. Be intentional about connection.

John 4:23-24 New Life Version
23 The time is coming, yes, it is here now, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth. The Father wants that kind of worshipers. 24 God is Spirit. Those who worship Him must worship Him in spirit and in truth.”

4. Redirect your worry to God.

The answer always begins with and ends with Jesus.

Never forget, God is in you and with you always. He will never forget you, He will never turn away. He is listening and always, God Loves You No Matter What!

The first part of Acts portrays the meaning of Christianity, how it was shared, and how it was lived out in a closed community of Jews whose common culture was based on the Old Testament.
