SERMON NOTES:

"Having a Kingdom First Identity," Pastor Justin Miller.

“Who are you?”
Good question. We can answer it with our occupation. We can answer it with our family relationship. We can answer it a lot of ways, but there’s only one way that matters: WHO you are is about WHOSE you are. Join Pastor Justin Miller in the first message of our new series, Kingdom Come, where he talks about Having a Kingdom First Identity.

2 Corinthians 5:17
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!

Galatians 2:20
I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.

Christ living in me so He can shine through me.

How do you get your identity?

Our worth is usually defined by our work.

Philippians 3:7-9
But whatever were gains to me I now consider loss for the sake of Christ.
8 What is more, I consider everything a loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them garbage, that I may gain Christ
9 and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ—the righteousness that comes from God on the basis of faith.

Our identity is not our own.

1 Corinthians 6:19
19 Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own;
20 you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.

Isaiah 43:1
43 But now, this is what the Lord says—
he who created you, Jacob,
he who formed you, Israel:
“Do not fear, for I have redeemed you;
I have summoned you by name; you are mine.

Our identity is not in what we do it is about what Jesus has already done.

Who you are is about whose you are.

2 Corinthians 3:18
18 And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.

Romans 8:29
For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters.

1 Peter 2:9-10
But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.
10 Once you were not a people, but now you are the people of God; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.

  • Stop listening to the world and start listening to God.
  • Do you understand how much God loves you. How much Jesus paid for you.
  • If we could see ourselves through God’s eyes we would see that we are not what we’ve done.
  • We all and fall short of the glory of God.
  • The enemy wants us to associate with our sin.

Ephesians 2:4-5
4 But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy,
5 made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved.
6 And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus,
7 in order that in the coming ages he might show the incomparable riches of his grace, expressed in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus.
8 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—
9 not by works, so that no one can boast.
10 For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.

  • Most of life is about "do."
  • Where the world wants to do more Jesus tells us it is already done.
  • On the cross Jesus said it is finished. I did for you what you could never do for yourself.
  • We are God’s handiwork, we are God’s masterpiece.

Who you are is about whose you are.

Colossians 3:3
For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God.

Never forget, God is in you and with you always. He will never forget you, He will never turn away. He is listening and always, God Loves You No Matter What!
