Sermon Notes

This is a tough time all around; so much to complain about. So much to whine about. We get it!

But – are you whining to God or are you worshiping? Are you grumbling about things not going your way or are you grateful? Are you still trying to get control or is He Lord over your life?

Philippians 2:14
14 Do everything without grumbling or arguing,

Hebrews 12:9-10
9 Moreover, we have all had human fathers who disciplined us and we respected them for it. How much more should we submit to the Father of spirits and live! 10 They disciplined us for a little while as they thought best; but God disciplines us for our good, in order that we may share in his holiness.

How does this verse say we should act? Why do you think that is important?

  • – Do everything without complaining
  • – Do everything without arguing
  • – Don’t grumble, it may cause God to hold back

Complaining presses pause on God’s power in our lives

Psalm 46:10
He says, “Be still, and know that I am God;
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth.”

God’s plan isn’t to make us happy by giving us everything we want; it’s to make us holy by giving us everything we need…including discipline.

Hebrews 12:9-11
9 Moreover, we have all had human fathers who disciplined us and we respected them for it. How much more should we submit to the Father of spirits and live! 10 They disciplined us for a little while as they thought best; but God disciplines us for our good, in order that we may share in his holiness. 11 No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it.

What do these verses teach us about God’s discipline?

  • – We should submit to God’s discipline so we can live forever
  • – God’s discipline is ALWAYS good for us
  • – God’s discipline helps us share in His holiness

What are some of the problems with complaining?

  • – Complaining communicates a lack of confidence in God
  • – Complaining tells God we don’t trust Him
  • – Complaining and ingratitude implies insufficiency
  • – When we complain we tell God He’s not enough and He hasn’t given us enough

Numbers 11:1-3
Now the people complained about their hardships in the hearing of the Lord, and when he heard them his anger was aroused. Then fire from the Lord burned among them and consumed some of the outskirts of the camp. 2 When the people cried out to Moses, he prayed to the Lord and the fire died down. 3 So that place was called Taberah, because fire from the Lord had burned among them.

What happened in these verses when the children of Israel complained?

What can we learn about complaining from these verses?

  • – God became angry
  • – God sent a fire to the edges of their camp and destroyed the outskirts
  • – Our ingratitude makes God angry

Psalm 46:10
He says, “Be still, and know that I am God;

I will be exalted among the nations,

I will be exalted in the earth.”

Let go and know that He is God

Don’t grumble about God’s will!

Jeremiah 29:11
For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

Don’t grumble against God’s way!

Isaiah 55:8-9
8 “For my thoughts are not your thoughts,

neither are your ways my ways,”
declares the Lord.

9 “As the heavens are higher than the earth,

so are my ways higher than your ways
and
my thoughts than your thoughts

Don’t grumble against God’s when!

Galatians 6:9
Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.

Psalm 27:4
4 One thing I ask from the Lord,
this only do I seek:

that I may dwell in the house of the Lord
all the days of my life,
to gaze on the beauty of the Lord
and
to seek him in his temple.

Which if the above three areas do you struggle the most with trusting God?

Next Steps:
Take some time this week to pray about what your next steps are.

1. Have you given your life to Jesus? If not, talk to your church leader. We would love to share with you about the saving grace of Jesus and help you with your next step.

2. Spend some time in prayer this week and if you need to, repent of any complaining and ingratitude and ask God to give you a heart of gratitude.

Never forget, God is in you and with you always. He will never forget you, He will never turn away. He is listening and always,
God Loves You No Matter What!

THE PARABLE OF THE PRODIGAL SON
What does God think when he looks at us?
We may think God is fed up with our failures and wants nothing to do with us. We may think he is disappointed in us or that he might love us more if we worked harder.
But according to Jesus, God doesn’t think like that at all. The truth about God’s heart for sinners may surprise us and will certainly change our lives.

Beverages and a light snack will be served.

Text to Tithe: Due to a number of requests for a more "modern" way to tithe, Text to Tithe has been created. It’s safe, fast, and secure. Just text the word, "give" to (786) 288-0839 and follow the link. Thanks!
