Greatness Is Found In Service, Not Status.
Pastor Justin Miller
How do we become ‘Great’?
Is it by the kind of car we drive? Our job title? Or, just maybe, is it by how we serve God? Let’s look at Jesus’ life as Pastor Justin helps us see that Greatness is Found in Service, Not Status.
When we know whose we are we know who we are.
If God’s will is to be done in our lives we have to stop chasing status and start choosing service.
The greatest among you will be your servant.
Jesus tells us that greatness is found in service, not status.
Our world is all about status.
“So the last will be first, and the first will be last.”
5 “Everything they do is done for people to see: They make their phylacteries wide and the tassels on their garments long;
6 they love the place of honor at banquets and the most important seats in the synagogues;
7 they love to be greeted with respect in the marketplaces and to be called ‘Rabbi’ by others.
8 “But you are not to be called ‘Rabbi,’ for you have one Teacher, and you are all brothers.
9 And do not call anyone on earth ‘father,’ for you have one Father, and he is in heaven.
10 Nor are you to be called instructors, for you have one Instructor, the Messiah.
11 The greatest among you will be your servant.
12 For those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.
Paul, a servant of Christ Jesus, called to be an apostle and set apart for the gospel of God.
• Say yes to the opportunities that God send to you.
• Sometimes it’s not your ability, it is your availability.
• Whatever God has in front of you say yes God, here I am.
• Say yes Lord.
• Servants don’t need authority, they need opportunity.
• God doesn’t need your status, your position or your wealth.
• God wants to use ordinary people to do extra ordinary things.
Jesus got up from the meal, took off his outer clothing, and wrapped a towel around his waist. 5 After that, he poured water into a basin and began to wash his disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel that was wrapped around him.
3 Jesus knew that the Father had put all things under his power, and that he had come from God and was returning to God;
Because Jesus didn’t need anything from His disciples He could serve them.
When we have nothing to prove we have everything to give.
14 Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another’s feet. 15 I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you. 16 Very truly I tell you, no servant is greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him. 17 Now that you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them.
• Jesus didn’t just tell us to server, He showed us how.
• What would it look like if we lived a little more like Jesus and a little less like the world?
• What if God’s church had nothing to prove and everything to give?
• Most of our problems occur when we put ourselves first over others.
Philippians 2:5-11 New International Version
5 In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus:
6 Who, being in very nature[a] God,
did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage;
7 rather, he made himself nothing
by taking the very nature[b] of a servant,
being made in human likeness.
8 And being found in appearance as a man,
he humbled himself
by becoming obedient to death—
even death on a cross!
9 Therefore God exalted him to the highest place
and gave him the name that is above every name,
10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow,
in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
11 and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
• Status only comes from service.
• God takes your obedience and blesses it
• He takes your humility and lifts it up.
• He takes your sacrifice and rewards it.
• Before Jesus took the throne he stooped down and served the world.
Never forget, God is in you and with you always. He will never forget you, He will never turn away. He is listening and always, God Loves You No Matter What!
