SERMON NOTES June 21, 2020
“Graves Into Gardens,"
Pastor Justin Miller.

Ephesians 5:18-20 (NIV)
18 Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit, 19 Speaking to one another with psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit. Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord, 20 always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

“Graves into Gardens” Song verse:
“I searched the world but it couldn’t fill me. Man’s empty praise and treasures that fade are never enough.
Then You came along and put me back together and every desire is now satisfied here in Your love.”

Colossians 3:23-24 (NIV)
23 Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, 24 since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving. them on the road. 9 The crowds that went ahead of him and those that followed shouted,
“Hosanna to the Son of David!”
“Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!”
“Hosanna in the highest heaven!”

Matthew 21:6-9 (NIV)

6 The disciples went and did as Jesus had instructed them. 7 They brought the donkey and the colt and placed their cloaks on them for Jesus to sit on. 8 A very large crowd spread their cloaks on the road, while others cut branches from the trees and spread them on the road.

Matthew 6:19-21 (NIV)
19 “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. 20 But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

Luke 12:15 (NIV)
15 Then he said to them, “Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; life does not consist in an abundance of possessions.”

Another way we try to find fulfillment is through the accumulation of possessions and accomplishments. All of these things will pass away.

Why do we put so much hope in chasing after bigger, better, faster, newer, or more things?

Psalm 23:4 (NIV)
4 Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me.

Psalm 139:13-18 (NIV)
13 For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. 14 I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. 15 My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place, when I was woven together in the depths of the earth. 16 Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be. 17 How precious to me are your thoughts, God! How vast is the sum of them!
18 Were I to count them, they would outnumber the grains of sand— when I awake, I am still with you.

Romans 5:8 (NIV)
8 But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

Song verse:
“I’m not afraid To show You my weakness My failures and flaws, Lord, You’ve seen them all and You still call me friend.”

God loves us in spite of our flaws, shortcomings, and sin. What if we all looked at others more the way that God looks at us?

Romans 8:28 (NIV)
28 And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.

Song verse:
Cause the God of the mountain is the God of the valley. There’s not a place Your mercy and grace won’t find me again.

We love being on top of the mountains in life, but we hate being in the valley. What should we learn about God in both of these situations?

1 Peter 1:3-9 (NIV)
3 Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 4 and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade. This inheritance is kept in heaven for you, 5 who through faith are shielded by God’s power until the coming of the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time. 6 In all this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials. 7 These have come so that the proven genuineness of your faith—of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire—may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed. 8 Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy, 9 for you are receiving the end result of your faith, the salvation of your souls.

How can we GROW stronger in our faith as we go through the valleys of life?

ANNOUNCEMENTS & EVENTS for the week of 6-21-2020

Wednesday, 6pm – Not Your Mama’s Bible Study presents:
PAUL THE APOSTLE – DAVID NASSER
Americans live in a culture that places high emphasis on entertainment, achievement and self. It’s increasingly difficult for Scriptural Truth to cut through the noise and sink into our hearts. But when we stop and study Scripture, the culture we live in faces the same problems as the early church.

Come to Bible Study Hungry.
This week we will be serving Assorted Pizza, Fresh Garden Salad, Lemonade, Iced Tea, with Coffee Cake for dessert.
Text to Tithe: Due to a number of requests for a more “modern” way to tithe, Text to Tithe has been created. It’s safe, fast, and secure. Just text the word, “give” to (786) 288-0839 and follow the link. Thanks!
