Listening To Doing: How God’s Word Reflects The REAL You & What You Can Do About It, Pastor Justin Miller.

What do YOU see when you look in a mirror? Do you see a person with make-up on or flexing your muscles to look good? Or do you see the REAL you? The one God’s Word needs to work on? Join Pastor Justin Miller as he continues in our study of the Book of James, and go from Listening to DOING.

  • James tells us that God’s Word is the mirror for our lives.
  • His Word tells us what is real going on, what we look like, and what we’re dealing with on the inside.

James 1:22-25
22 Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. 23 Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a mirror 24 and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. 25 But whoever looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues in it—not forgetting what they have heard, but doing it—they will be blessed in what they do. Pride keeps us from God’s promises.

  • The Word is our mirror of whom and how we really are.
  • Our mirror shows us two things; God and ourselves.
  • It’s important that we recognize out imperfections to understand how much we need God.
  • Salvation can’t begin until we recognize that we need salvation.
  • God wants us to welcome the process of recognizing who we are and what we need.

Psalm 139: 23-24
Search me, God, and know my heart;
test me and know my anxious thoughts.
24 See if there is any offensive way in me,
and lead me in the way everlasting.

  • Resurrection starts with reflection and then inspection. Asking God to show You Himslef but also yourself.
  • When is the last time you asked the Holy Spirit to show you yourself?
  • What if when we pray to God instead of giving Him a to do list we just sit and listen?
  • Invite the Holy Spirit to search your heart.
  • God is giving us His mirror, His Word with the support of His Spirit for reflection that leads to resurrection.
  • God wants you to experience the joy of being like Jesus.

Hebrews 4:13
12 For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. 13 Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account.

Jesus the Great High Priest
14 Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has ascended into heaven,[a] Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess. 15 For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin. 16 Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.

  • To get right with God you have to get real with God.
  • You have to open and honest and transparent.
  • You can never be good enough to earn His love but you can never be bad enough to lose His love.
  • Don’t run away from God with your sin, run to Him.
  • The last thing God wants from us is the Christian "Flex" to make ourselves look good and everyone else to look bad.
  • God’s mirror isn’t for flexing it’s for reflecting.

1 Corinthians 8:1b
But knowledge puffs up while love builds up.

  • Jesus says people will know you are a Christian by your love not by your knowledge.
  • God’s mirror only works when we’re holding it the right way.
  • James says don’t just hear the word, do the words.
  • We need fewer facts and more acts.

  • Do not use the Word to look for exemptions or exceptions.
  • God wants us to be examples of the word.
  • He wants not only be hearers but be doers.
  • Let us be doers.

Always believe and do not doubt the Lord your God.

Never forget, God is in you and with you always. He will never forget you, He will never turn away. He is listening and always,
God Loves You No Matter What!
