Bring On The Blessings, Part II

Don’t look at the product, but look at the pattern

The pattern of our life produces what’s going on in our life.

Romans 12:2 New International Version (NIV)

2Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.

1. Be a generous giver.

2. Be a good steward.

God won’t put resources in a bag with holes in it.

Don’t worship the blessings, worship the BLESSOR.

Matthew 6:21 New International Version (NIV)

21For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

The world says it’s OK to be broke because everybody is broke!

70% of people live paycheck to paycheck.

Personal finance is about 80% of behavior.

You don’t outgrow behavioral problems, you have to learn discipline.

5 Steps to follow:

1. Write a plan

Luke 14:28 New International Version (NIV)

28“Suppose one of you wants to build a tower. Won’t you first sit down and estimate the cost to see if you have enough money to complete it?"

Count the cost of every step of the way.

If I manage well what I have now, God will bless me with more.

Matthew 25:21 New International Version (NIV)

21“His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!

2. Act your WAGE

Develop self-control.

Proverbs 25:28 The Message (MSG)

28A person without self-control is like a house with its doors and windows knocked out.

3. Save Money.

Save in these ways:

  • Save for an emergency (3-6 months of expenses)
  • Pay cash for things
  • Invest for wealth building

Proverbs 21:20 The Message (MSG)

20Valuables are safe in a wise person’s home; fools put it all out for yard sales.

4. Get out of DEBT.

Proverbs 22:7 The Message (MSG)

7The poor are always ruled over by the rich, so don’t borrow and put yourself under their power.

Get out of debt and stay out of debt!

5. Give your tithes – tithing is Holy.

There is a promise attached to tithing.

Leviticus 27:30-33 The Message (MSG)

30“A tenth of the land’s produce, whether grain from the ground or fruit from the trees, is God’s. It is holy to God. If a man buys back any of the tenth he has given, he must add twenty percent to it. A tenth of the entire herd and flock, every tenth animal that passes under the shepherd’s rod, is holy to God. He is not permitted to pick out the good from the bad or make a substitution. If he dishonestly makes a substitution, both animals, the original and the substitute, become the possession of the Sanctuary and cannot be redeemed.”

Malachi 3:10-11 The Message (MSG)

10“Begin by being honest. Do honest people rob God? But you rob me day after day.

“You ask, ‘How have we robbed you?’

11“The tithe and the offering—that’s how! And now you’re under a curse—the whole lot of you—because you’re robbing me. Bring your full tithe to the Temple treasury so there will be ample provisions in my Temple. Test me in this and see if I don’t open up heaven itself to you and pour out blessings beyond your wildest dreams. For my part, I will defend you against marauders; protect your wheat fields and vegetable gardens against plunderers.”

Proverbs 3:9-12 The Message (MSG)

9Honor God with everything you own; give him the first and the best.

Your barns will burst, your wine vats will brim over. But don’t, dear friend, resent God’s discipline; don’t sulk under his loving correction.

It’s the child he loves that God corrects; a father’s delight is behind all this.

Honor the Lord.

Tithing is a test.

Malachi 3:10 – The only place God says to "test me."

Tithing tests your heart.

Tithing says, "God, I’m giving to you FIRST, I’m thanking you first."

You give 10%, the 90% will be blessed. Go from being blessed to being a blessing.

Matthew 23:23-24 The Message (MSG)

23“You’re hopeless, you religion scholars and Pharisees! Frauds! You keep meticulous account books, tithing on every nickel and dime you get, but on the meat of God’s Law, things like fairness and compassion and commitment—the absolute basics!—you carelessly take it or leave it. Careful bookkeeping is commendable, but the basics are required. Do you have any idea how silly you look, writing a life story that’s wrong from start to finish, nitpicking over commas and semicolons?"

CHALLENGE: T90X – Tithe for 90 days.
