SERMON NOTES – May 5, 2020

Baggage On Battlefields,” Pastor Jeremy Foster.

A thief is only there to steal and kill and destroy. I came so they can have real and eternal life, more and better life than they ever dreamed of.
John 10:10 (MSG)

God’s desire is for you to live a life beyond this life.

If Satan can’t take you out, he’ll try to wear you out.

Let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which does so easily ensnare us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us.
Hebrews 12:1 (KJV2000)

You don’t have to get there first; you just have to get there.

Seek the LORD and his strength; seek his presence continually!
1 Chronicles 16:11 (ESV)

Three reasons we miss the blessings on the battlefields.

1. Distracted Vision

If Satan can’t destroy you he’ll distract you.

When they came to the crowd, a man approached Jesus and knelt before him. “Lord, have mercy on my son,” he said. “He has seizures and is suffering greatly. He often falls into the fire or into the water. I brought him to your disciples, but they could not heal him.”

“You unbelieving and perverse generation,” Jesus replied, “how long shall I stay with you? How long shall I put up with you? Bring the boy here to me.” Jesus rebuked the demon, and it came out of the boy, and he was healed at that moment. Then the disciples came to Jesus in private and asked, “Why couldn’t we drive it out?”

He replied, “Because you have so little faith. Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.

However, this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting.”
Matthew 17:14-21 (NIV)

  • Unbelieving – Disconnect from God
  • Perverse – Too connected to the world
  • Prayer – Connects us to God
  • Fasting – Disconnects us from the world

2. Discarded Dreams

My days are over. My hopes have disappeared. My heart’s desires are broken.

Job 17:11 (NLT)

  • If you’re not dead, God’s not done.
  • Opinions of others – Hurtful past
  • Unmet expectations – Failure

3. Disbelief

  • God doesn’t call the qualified, He qualifies the called.
  • When you’re blinded to the possibilities of your future you will settle for the familiarities of your past.

Just because it feels familiar doesn’t mean that’s God’s plan.

How do I start?

1. Believe again
God’s not looking for perfection, He’s looking for progress.

2. Go All In
God never called you to feel ready, He called you to follow Him.

3. Get it to Jesus

Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you.

1 Peter 5:7 (BSB)

It makes no difference who you are or where you’re from-if you want God and are ready to do as he says, the door is open.

Acts 10:35 (MSG)
